23 years after filing for divorce, an Indian-origin woman in the UK received Rs 85 crore. The incident started when Varsha Gohil filed for divorce from her husband Bhadresh Gohil on charges of adultery and immorality.
The court has finally awarded Barsha 6.6 million pounds (Rs 85 crore) in a contentious case that has dragged on for two decades. The Gohils had three children when the case began. At that time money is also shared. At that time Varsha received Rs 3.5 crore and a family car as his share.
However, she suspected that the real amount of her husband’s wealth was actually much higher, which she kept secret. After many years, Bhadresh came under investigation for money laundering.
According to the investigators, Bhadresh has committed various financial irregularities, fraud and money laundering abroad. After a lengthy investigation, he was sentenced to ten years in prison in 2011. The investigation revealed that Bhadresh actually owned crores of rupees, which had not come to light during the divorce.
Bhadresh used to get huge amount of money illegally. Of this, £28 million was seized by investigators. As a result, what Varsha was claiming was proved and his dues increased significantly.
In 2015, the country’s Supreme Court allowed the Gohils to reopen their divorce file. The government has demanded the confiscation of all proceeds of crime. Barsha, on the other hand, claims that a part of the money is income from the family business. So he should have his share.
Meanwhile, Bhadresh has always maintained that all these assets are not his at all. Finally, the court heard all the parties and ruled that a part of Bhadresh’s total property is valid and Varsha should receive it.
