The event was held at the Birinchi Kumar Barua Hall of the University of Guwahati. The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, has distributed application forms for millions of girls in the state with the aim of preventing child marriage and pursuing higher education in the state.
Earlier, the scheme was limited to state universities and privatized schools.
From this time onwards, the scheme will also cover Central University , Assam University , Tezpur University. This year, the scheme will cover all students of Higher Secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also cover a third year undergraduate student next year. Students who enroll in higher secondary within 5 or 10 km from their homes will receive Rs. 1000 each.
The scheme has been provided to 4 lakh students in 2025-26 under the million Moina scheme. Last year, the scheme provided Rs 132 crore to about 160,000 girl students. This scheme will benefit girl students from pursuing higher education.
