Everyone in Sikkim is now educated! It is the fifth state of the country

Sikkim became the fifth state in the country to become a fully literate state. The state has set this precedent under the Centre’s ‘ULLAS’ scheme. Sikkim is the third state in North East India and the fifth state in the country to achieve this feat.

Mizoram, Goa, Tripura and Himachal Pradesh had earlier achieved this feat. The announcement was made in the presence of President Draupadi Murmu at the Manan Center of Sikkim University in Gangtok. It is considered a historical educational milestone for Sikkim.

Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and State Education Minister Raju Basnet were present on the occasion. “This significant recognition is another important milestone for Sikkim and reflects the state’s unwavering commitment to educational empowerment and inclusive development under the pragmatic and visionary leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Gole).

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said, “It is a historic and proud moment to officially declare our state as a ‘Fully Literate State’ under the ‘Ullas: New India Literacy Programme’ during Hon’ble President Draupadi Murmur’s visit to Sikkim on 27th May.”

“This achievement is a milestone in the educational and social progress of our state. It reflects our commitment to ensure that no adult citizen is left behind in the path of knowledge, dignity, empowerment and inclusive development,” he added.
