Fear of flooding in the state before the monsoon! 347 sensitive sites have been identified


About 31.04 lakh hectares of land in Assam are flooded every year due to the Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries, which is about 40 percent of the total land area of ​​the entire state. The state water resources department has completed extensive preparations ahead of the current monsoon season to deal with the flood situation.

According to sources in the Water Resources Department, the department has already stocked all the necessary materials in sensitive areas to deal with this flood. Sources said that 238 mega tubes, 70,554 meters of geo fabric, sand bags, porcupines and mega bags have been prepared for various vulnerable areas in the state. Based on field assessment, 347 sensitive areas have been identified across the state, where continuous monitoring by the department continues. These include 94 sites in South Assam, 43 in Central Assam, 66 in Barak Valley, 52 in South Assam and 39 in Boroland Territorial Region (BTR).

According to the report, the Dam Monitoring Committee has been constituted to ensure the knowledge and participation of local people in the flood management process and to increase their capacity. These committees include water resources department officials, district administration officials, village panchayat members and local youth.
