Residents living nearby claimed that irregular visits by garbage collection vehicles have contributed to the accumulation of waste under the flyover. One permanent resident alleged that Gauhati collection vehicles do not arrive consistently, leaving residents with little option but to dispose of their garbage beneath the bridge.
The area contractor Baharul Ali acknowledged that collection vehicles may occasionally miss scheduled visits. However, he also pointed out that some residents avoid paying waste collection charges and instead dump their garbage on roadsides and other open spaces.
Addressing concerns regarding collection fees, Ali said that additional charges are sometimes requested only when an unusually large quantity of garbage needs to be cleared.
Meanwhile, responding to the allegations, Ward Councillor Meera Das Saharia stated that waste collection services are being carried out regularly in the locality. She added that in cases where a collection is missed, the authorities take immediate action once residents inform them about the issue. Whereas the ward councillor have mentioned that there was no official charges for waste collection.
The presence of the garbage dump has once again highlighted the need for better coordination between residents, waste collection agencies, and local authorities to ensure proper disposal of waste and maintain cleanliness in the area.
