Girijananda Chowdhury University, Guwahati has achieved a special milestone as an important milestone in legal education in North East India. On June 5, 2026, the Bar Council of India approved the university to offer a five-year BA course. LL.B. (Hons) course is officially approved. After formal approval by the Bar Council, the new course will be implemented in the university from the upcoming academic year 2026-2.
The Center for Legal Studies, established in 2024, is constantly striving to strengthen its academic infrastructure and related systems as per the rules and regulations of the Bar Council. As a result of these efforts, the university was able to get official recognition from the Bar Council of India in 2025 and now it has also received final approval for this five-year honors course.
With this approval, Girijanand Chowdhury University has become one of the select private sector universities in Assam offering Bar Council recognized law courses. As per the rules, the number of seats for this course will be determined based on the directions of the Bar Council. The new facility is expected to help students receive a high quality legal education and make a significant contribution to the development of the legal profession across the region.
