GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) carried out an eviction drive against roadside encroachments in the Islam Nagar area of Mathgharia as part of its ongoing efforts to reclaim public spaces and ensure unobstructed access for commuters and pedestrians.

According to GMC, the drive was undertaken to keep public roads clear and accessible, while restoring spaces that had been encroached upon along road corridors.
The civic body said such initiatives are essential for improving traffic movement and preserving the intended use of public infrastructure for the benefit of citizens.
The removal of encroachments is expected to ease congestion, enhance pedestrian mobility and contribute to better management of urban spaces.
GMC has been conducting similar drives in different parts of the city as part of its broader efforts to maintain public infrastructure, improve civic amenities and ensure smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
