He also questioned the degrees of some lawyers

Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant has taken a strong stance on the attack on the judiciary of the state. During the hearing on Friday, he strongly criticized the work of lawyers and some activists. The Chief Justice clarified that there are parasites in the society who are constantly targeting the judiciary. He also warned that any attempt to abuse the legal profession will not be tolerated.

The observation was made while the Delhi High Court was hearing a petition related to the process of awarding the post of Senior Advocate. Referring to some people who are active on social media, Chief Justice Kant said that many unemployed youths are using media like Facebook or YouTube to attack courts. He compared these people to cockroaches and said the court was keeping a close eye on their activities. He said that the court has information about who is posting what on social media.

Not only this, the Chief Justice also expressed deep doubts about the authenticity of law degrees of some lawyers in Delhi. He said there is a good chance that many lawyers have fake LLB degrees. He declared in the court that he was waiting for a suitable case to order a CBI probe into the matter. This comment created a stir in Delhi’s legal circles.

An advocate who applied for the post of senior advocate was also reprimanded by the Supreme Court. The bench expressed displeasure with the petitioner’s repeated appeals to the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court order and held that his professional conduct did not qualify him to be a senior advocate. Justice Jayamalya Bagchi also asked the lawyer if he had anything else to do but fight for his position. The court made it clear that the post of senior advocate should be earned and running behind the court is not right. The lawyer eventually apologized and his appeal was dismissed.
