A person with higher educational qualification cannot be selected for a post which is expressly reserved for candidates of lower qualification. The Supreme Court gave this verdict on Thursday.
Besides, the Supreme Court has observed that if one conceals his higher education details to get a job, it deprives other genuinely qualified (comparatively less qualified) candidates of a fair chance. The Madras High Court’s judgment in this regard has also been canceled by the Supreme Court.
“It was unfair and affected the impartiality of the selection process,” the Supreme Court said in its judgment, dismissing the plea of a graduate who concealed his eligibility for a post reserved for Class 10 educational qualification in a bank. No candidate can use higher education qualification to get a job specially reserved for applicants with lower education.”
The Supreme Court said certain jobs are reserved for less qualified people so that they have equal opportunity in government employment.
It is worth noting that thousands, sometimes lakhs of job aspirants sit the exam for a small number of government job seats in the country. There are also instances of people with MAs, BEds, and even PhDs being tested for peon-like and lower posts.
Needless to say, this is due to limited job opportunities. However, the Supreme Court did not say how the situation will be handled.
