The meeting discussed several important issues including the Mekadatu Dam dispute, NEET examination and financial assistance provided by the Central Government to Tamil Nadu. However, amid all these official discussions, the Chief Minister’s huge convoy has now sparked a lot of discussion and criticism on social media.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged the country’s public representatives to reduce unnecessary expenditure and conserve energy. Even the Prime Minister himself has made his security convoy much smaller than before and Chief Ministers of many states in the country have also started following this rule. However, this move by Chief Minister Vijay has now caused a strong reaction among the opposition parties. According to the opposition, Chief Minister Vijay, who has always criticized the central government for increasing fuel prices, is now displaying a VIP culture in the heart of the capital. But the chief minister’s supporters claim that this was done only for security reasons and due to government protocol.
Chief Minister Vijay also sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi a day before the meeting. In this letter, he demanded the central government’s intervention to stop the proposed Mekadatu dam project that Karnataka is going to construct on the Cauvery river. He expressed deep concern over the Karnataka government’s ground-breaking move for the project, saying it would severely damage the livelihood of thousands of farmers in Tamil Nadu who are completely dependent on Cauvery water.
