Mother of Two Found Dead in Assam’s Jamugurihat; Woman Held in Suicide Case


 

GUWAHATI: A woman from Pachigaon under the Jamugurihat area in Assam’s Sonitpur district was found dead in her residence on Saturday, June 6, prompting a police investigation and the registration of a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to abetment of suicide.

According to police, the body was recovered on the morning of June 6 at around 8 AM. The deceased, a mother of two, was a resident of Pachigaon. Following the recovery of the body, police initiated legal proceedings and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Speaking to GPlus, an official from Jamuguri Police Station confirmed that a case had been registered under Section 108 BNS. The official further stated that one woman has been arrested in connection with the case and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

“The body was recovered on June 6 at approximately 8 AM. The deceased was a resident of Pachigaon and has two children. Based on the facts that emerged during the preliminary stage of the investigation, a case was registered under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. One woman has been arrested in connection with the case and has been sent to judicial custody. The investigation remains ongoing,” the official told GPlus.

The police have not disclosed additional details regarding the investigation. Authorities stated that further inquiries are underway and that all relevant aspects of the case are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.

The incident has drawn attention in the locality, with residents seeking clarity on the circumstances leading to the woman's death. Police, however, have urged that the investigation be allowed to proceed in accordance with due process.
