Veteran film producer and former chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Pahlaj Nihalani has passed away. He was 76 years old at the time of his death. His death has cast a shadow of mourning in Bollywood.
He was suffering from cirrhosis of the liver for a long time and was undergoing treatment for the past four months. He was undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital. He passed away on Thursday (June 4) night.
Pahlaj Nihalani is not only a successful producer, but also one of the most controversial and discussed figures in the Indian film censorship system. During his tenure as CBFC chairman from 2015 to 2017, there were controversies surrounding the censorship of several films.
He had a long and successful career as a producer. He was associated with several commercial films including ‘Ilzam’, ‘Akhen’, ‘Andaz’ and ‘Talash’. She is believed to have played a pivotal role in Govinda’s career in Bollywood. They were once very successful, though later their relationship deteriorated.
Just a few weeks ago, Pahlaj Nihalani was seen publicly voicing his views on various issues in the film industry. He was candid about the rising costs of actors and the changing culture of the industry. His death was mourned by many members of the film industry. His last rites will be held in Mumbai on Thursday at 3 pm.
