A dead body of a Delhi University professor was found in a closed flat room. He was hit on the head with something heavy. Preliminary investigation suggests that the professor was murdered.
The deceased professor, identified as Devasmita Pal, was an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Delhi University’s Shivaji College. His body was recovered from Satyam’s apartment in east Delhi’s Bashundhara enclave on Thursday. He lived alone in that flat.
Devasmita Pal’s husband lives in Bangalore. She was separated from her husband and lived in Delhi. The professor was very popular among the students
According to the police, the deceased’s sister Devarti Pal called the New Ashok Nagar police station on Thursday afternoon and informed about the murder. The flat was locked from outside since Thursday morning.
Devarati told the police that she had called Devasmita several times since morning. But there was no response. He suspects something bad has happened. Then Devarthi went there and broke the lock and entered the flat. He entered and saw Devasmita lying dead. Police went to the spot and recovered his body.
Delhi Police officials said that the assistant professor was hit on the head with a heavy object. He had a deep head injury. Besides, the vein in his wrist has burst. The police initially believe that he was killed. However, no evidence of robbery was found. Officials also said that all the jewelery and money in the house were in the designated place.
Police said that a murder case has been registered in this incident. Officials are trying to determine a motive.
