The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Tahir Mewati, a resident of Bulandshahr, accused of sharing offensive and pro-Pakistan Facebook posts against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to a report of the Bar and Bench, Justice Rajeev Lochan Shuclass A single bench granted the bail plea on Monday.
Tahir Mewati was accused of making fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sharing pro-Pakistan pictures and posts through his Facebook account. Screenshots of social media posts submitted to the court show Prime Minister Narendra Modi being dragged along by former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The posts were accompanied by captions saying Modi apologized and other pro-Pakistan Urdu articles, the prosecution said.
During the hearing, the government argued that the Facebook account operated by Mewati was used to defame the prime minister and promote pro-Pakistan sentiments. By submitting mobile phones, IP addresses, email IDs, phone numbers and metadata related to the accounts recovered from Mewati’s house as digital evidence, they claimed that Mewati was directly linked to the accounts.
Mewati’s lawyer told the court that the Facebook account was completely fake and was created by an unknown person to tarnish his client’s image. The lawyer argued that Mewati had no criminal history and had not posted anything on social media and had not gone viral against the prime minister. After hearing arguments from both sides, the accused was granted bail.
The incident took place in 2025 when Tahir Mewati was arrested under various sections of BNS at Salimpur police station in Bulandshahr and was in jail since May. Before that, in August 2025, the High Court rejected his bail plea saying his posts were provocative and destructive of communal harmony. He was earlier denied bail by the Satra court where the accused maintained that he had only uploaded some memes but in the high court he completely denied posting any material.
