Two Railway Workers Critically Injured After 25,000-Volt Shock at Guwahati’s Kamakhya Coaching Depot


 

GUWAHATI: Two electrical staff members were seriously injured after reportedly coming into contact with a 25,000-volt overhead equipment (OHE) while carrying out maintenance work on a coach at Guwahati’s Kamakhya Coaching Depot on Tuesday morning, May 26.

The incident occurred during routine maintenance when the workers were allegedly exposed to a live overhead electrical line. Both sustained severe burn injuries and were immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and a private hospital for treatment.

Speaking to GPlus, K.K. Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) confirmed the incident and said, “The accident took place in the morning and involved electrocution of two contractual workers. They were promptly shifted to hospitals soon after the incident.

Sharma further added that while both workers have suffered serious burn injuries, their condition is not fatal.

The investigation is ongoing and further details are expected.
