Assam: Tension at Dibrugarh Temple After Man Assaults Priest, Disrupts Prayers


 

GUWAHATI: Tension gripped the Hanuman Temple in the Thanachariali area of Dibrugarh on Saturday, 4 July, after a man allegedly barged into the premises, assaulted the priest, and attempted to disrupt ongoing prayers.

According to locals the incident occurred in the early part of the day when prayers were ongoing.

Speaking to GPlus, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dibrugarh Thana confirmed that police have detained the man in connection with the incident and are in the process of registering a formal case. He added that a medical examination of the priest, who was assaulted during the disruption, has already been conducted.

The OC further noted that the detained individual did not appear to be of sound condition, though he clarified that this observation was preliminary and cautioned against drawing conclusions before a proper assessment is made. He indicated that police are treating the matter carefully pending further investigation.

Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will follow once the case is formally registered. No further details about the identity or motive of the accused have been released so far.
