According to a recent RTI report, the Congress party has been illegally occupying its old headquarters at 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi since June 26, 2013. The government did not collect any rent from the party for the bungalow for more than a decade. According to the Central GovtThe amount paid by the team is currently under review and has not yet been determined.
Bungalow No. 24, located in Lutyens area of Delhi, was allotted to the Congress party on August 7, 1992, said the Directorate under the Union Ministry of Home and Urban Affairs. However, on June 26, 2013, the allotment was cancelled. According to GovtSince that day the bungalow is in illegal possession of the Congress. The government said the amount to be recovered from the group is yet to be determined.
The RTI applicant sought a copy of the government’s notice to the Congress to vacate the bungalow but the department refused to provide the information. They said such documents are not collected and kept together and to collect them c“This will waste a lot of time of the government department. Earlier, according to another RTI filed in 2018, the license fee of 24 Akbar Road was fixed at Rs 3,920 per month since then, the Congress requested the government to keep the bungalow in its possession.
The same RTI petition also sought information about the old headquarters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at 11 Ashok Road. According to the sources of the departmentThe bungalow was allotted to the BJP on March 21, but the property has now become part of the Lok Sabha MP’s residential area. Hence the application has been transferred to Lok Sabha Secretariat for rent information. The government also said that the amount owed by the government to the BJP is currently under review and is yet to be determined. According to an earlier RTI, the rent of 11 Ashok Road was also fixed at Rs 3,920 per month.
