GUWAHATI: A landslide struck Nizara Path in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati on Wednesday morning, July 22, after a section of the hillside gave way, sending debris onto the road. The incident occurred at around 11 am.

Personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and local residents gathered at the site to assess the damage near the exposed red-earth slope.
No casualties have been reported so far. SDRF teams, along with municipal and local officials, were seen evaluating the extent of the collapse.
The incident adds to a series of landslides that have hit Guwahati this monsoon. Just three days earlier, on July 19, a massive landslide struck the Kharghuli area after boulders and debris rolled down a hillside, blocking a road. Officials attributed the incident to illegal and unscientific earth-cutting despite restrictions imposed by the district administration.
A day later, on July 20, a rain-triggered landslide struck a house at Madhab Dev Nagar in Maligaon, injuring four members of a family and prompting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to intensify its alert for the city.
Kahilipara itself is considered a vulnerable area. City assessments have identified 25 landslide-prone spots in Kahilipara among 366 locations across Guwahati identified as vulnerable to landslides.
With ASDMA continuing to warn of moderate to heavy rainfall increasing the risk of flooding and localized landslides in vulnerable parts of the city, authorities have urged residents living in hillside settlements to remain alert.
