According to investigators, Deka and his friend Sunu Choudhury had visited a house in Santipur to meet an individual from the transgender community known as Neha, who wasn't home at the time. Inside the house, two men Anwar (alias Pagla) and Raja (alias Abir Khan) were reportedly drinking in a room belonging to Neha's associates, Jenny and Mayuri.
Around 11:40 PM, as Deka and Choudhury were leaving, they crossed paths with Anwar and Raja, who were also stepping out. A minor collision between Deka and Anwar sparked an argument that quickly turned violent, drawing in all three men.
Police say Anwar then summoned his younger brother Sanwar, and Raja called his wife Moromi to the scene. The group allegedly beat Deka repeatedly, leaving him with a severe head injury. He was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital but later died from his wounds. A case has been registered at Bharalumukh Police Station (Case No. 108/26).
Police have arrested Anwar, Raja, and Anwar's brother Monwar, while Moromi has been detained for questioning. Sanwar remains at large, and a search is underway to locate him. Investigators also noted that Raja and Moromi have prior records connected to drug trafficking, having previously served jail time for related offenses.
While talking to GPlus, Bharalu Police said the four accused, three men and a woman will be presented in the court on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 14.
