In Guwahati, the city administration has come down hard on increasing traffic violations of CNG and electric green buses. It has been decided to stop the movement of green buses for seven days for road safety and convenience of passengers.
The district administration said that they have received many complaints against green buses in Guwahati. There are many complaints of violation of traffic laws and inconvenience to passengers. The transport department has already canceled the licenses of 63 green bus drivers.
Deputy Commissioner of the city Swapneel Pal said in a press conference on Tuesday that the administration is taking the issues raised by the people seriously. Verbal instructions have already been issued on three important issues and these instructions will soon be formally implemented by the Regional Transport Authority.
The Deputy Commissioner said that many green buses are not following their scheduled routes and plying on other routes. Common passengers have suffered. Strict action will be taken on complaints of road violations from now on. Action will be taken against the driver and conductor and the bus will be suspended for seven days.
Swapneel Pal directed the transport department to ply green buses uniformly on all designated roads in Guwahati. According to him, some routes have too many buses and some do not have enough buses. Therefore, the transport department has been asked to ensure smooth running of green buses on 16-17 scheduled routes in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, DCP Jayant Sarathi Bora, Traffic Wing, Guwahati Police, said that 63 green bus drivers have had their licenses canceled so far for violation of discipline. The District Commissioner has now ordered action against the driver and conductor and ordered the bus off the road for seven days.
The official clarified that green buses must always move in the left lane. Even if the bus in front stops, the bus behind cannot overtake in the right lane. Bus service will be stopped for seven days.
The administration said the main objective of the strict measures is to maintain order on the roads of Guwahati, ensure the safety of commuters and make public transport more regular and convenient.
