GUWAHATI: A new summer internship programme aimed at equipping undergraduate students with hands-on skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies has been launched in Gauhati University, on Monday June 28, with 280 students participating from Assam, other northeastern states and institutions across the country.

Running until July 22, the programme offers practical training in 11 high-demand technology domains, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Cyber Security, Computer Vision, Data Science, AI for Cognition, Multimedia, Visual Effects (VFX), and Computer Hardware and Networking.
The initiative comes amid the growing demand for AI-related skills across industries and is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes experiential learning through internships as part of undergraduate education.
Students will undergo laboratory-based training under the guidance of faculty members and mentors, with the curriculum designed to provide practical exposure to AI tools, machine learning models, cybersecurity practices and other emerging digital technologies.
The internship is expected to give participants early exposure to industry-relevant technologies while helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications in the fast-evolving AI sector.
