Jayamala, one of Kaziranga National Park’s oldest guard elephants, has died after more than three decades of wildlife conservation. The elephant died on Saturday night in Nalani area of Agartali forest area of Kaziranga National Park after prolonged illness. The elephant was ceremonially buried in the presence of forest officials and staff.
Jayamala was born in 1960 and joined the Kaziranga National Park elephants for the past 34 years conducting anti-poaching operations for foresters., Wildlife observation, They continued to cooperate in rescue operations and regular security operations. During this long period of service, Jayamala became an integral part of the National Park’s conservation efforts. Initially senior Maut Satyaban Pegu looked after Jaimala for many years and later Maut Neelkanth coach took over. The elephant died on Saturday night after being ill for the past one year.
