The new tariff will be effective from May


Amul, the country’s leading milk maker, has once again increased the price of milk. The popular brand has increased the price of several of its popular milk packets by Rs 2 per litre. The new tariffs will come into effect across the country from May 14. Amul’s decision is expected to have a major impact on the household budget of the general public in the current price hike.

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation said in a statement. The price of milk has increased due to the increase in the cost of cow feed and packaging materials. Also, transportation and production costs have increased significantly, putting dairy companies across India under financial stress.

The price hike will be applicable to several popular milks of Amul, such as Amul Gold, Amul Taja, Cow Milk, Buffalo Milk, Slim & Trim, Standard Milk and T-Special. As per the new tariff, the price of gold will now be Rs 70 per liter instead of Rs 68 per litre. Similarly, prices of other types of milk are expected to rise similarly, with buffalo milk rising from Rs 74 to Rs 76, cow milk from Rs 58 to Rs 60 and slim and trim from Rs 50.

This is the second major increase in the price of Amul brand milk in a very short period of time. Earlier, on May 1, 2025, the company had increased the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre. Mother Dairy also increased the price of milk at that time. In June last year, Amul hiked the prices of various milk varieties by Rs 2 to Rs 20. The frequent price hikes reflect rising cost pressures in the dairy sector.

Milk is an essential daily product in Indian households. Therefore, such frequent increase in milk price will directly affect the monthly expenditure of the people. Not only the common man, but tea shops, restaurants, sweet shops and small businessmen who depend on milk consumption will also face considerable hardship due to the increase in prices. Consumers now have to be prepared to spend more money on essential food items.
