11-Year-Old Dies, Several Injured After Tree Falls on School Bus in Mumbai


 

GUWAHATI: An 11-year-old student died and at least five others were injured after a tree collapsed onto a school bus carrying children in Mumbai’s Chembur area on Tuesday afternoon, June 30.

The incident took place on Road No. 11 while 12 children were on board the vehicle. Rescue operations were launched after children were reported trapped inside the damaged bus.

The injured students were taken to Zen Hospital, where doctors declared 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav dead due to critical injuries. Hospital officials said the other injured children sustained minor injuries and were in stable condition.

Officials said the tree fell onto one side of the bus, damaging the vehicle. The bus conductor and local residents evacuated the children before personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade reached the spot.

Teams from the fire brigade and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) later removed the tree and cleared the site. Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the collapse.
