GUWAHATI: A 53-year-old female elephant that was swept away by the swollen Dikhow River from Namsang in Nagaland has been safely rescued after reaching Sivasagar district in Assam amid the ongoing flood situation.

The rescue was shared by Assam Forest Minister Bimal Borah in a post on X on Friday, July 24. According to the minister, the elephant was carried downstream by the floodwaters before being safely rescued after entering Assam.
Veterinary teams are providing the elephant with round-the-clock medical care, and her condition is being closely monitored, Borah said.
The successful rescue comes as floods continue to affect several parts of Assam and neighbouring states, displacing both people and wildlife.
Forest officials are continuing to monitor the elephant's health and will take further steps based on veterinary assessments to ensure her recovery.
