GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has diverted, cancelled and short-terminated several train services after severe flooding inundated railway tracks in Assam's Sivasagar district, disrupting operations in the Tinsukia Division.

According to an official statement issued by NFR, incessant heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment areas has caused the Dikhow River to overflow, leading to extensive flooding in and around Simaluguri town. Floodwaters have submerged railway tracks and adjoining areas, with water overtopping the railway line in the Simaluguri section.
As a safety measure, train movement between the Simaluguri–Namtiali and Simaluguri–Selenghat sections has been suspended until further notice.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Tinsukia Division has launched restoration work on a war footing. Engineering teams, led by senior railway officials, are carrying out round-the-clock monitoring and repair work to restore normal train services at the earliest.
Long-Distance Trains Diverted
Several long-distance trains originating from or bound for Dibrugarh and New Tinsukia have been diverted via the Rangiya–Rangapara North–North Lakhimpur–Dibrugarh route.

The diversions apply to services operating between July 22 and July 27, depending on the individual train schedule.
Nagaland Express Short-Terminated
The 15669 Guwahati–Dibrugarh Nagaland Express will be short-terminated at Mariani from July 23 to July 26, remaining cancelled between Mariani and Dibrugarh.
Similarly, the 15670 Dibrugarh–Guwahati Nagaland Express will originate from Mariani between July 23 and July 27, with services between Dibrugarh and Mariani remaining cancelled.
Several Passenger and Intercity Trains Cancelled
NFR has also cancelled several passenger, DEMU and Intercity services operating in Upper Assam due to the flooding.

The railway has advised passengers to check the latest train status before commencing their journey, as restoration work continues in the flood-affected sections.
