The six-member team, comprising officials from different ministries of the Government of India, will remain in the state until July 11 to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of flood damage caused during 2025 and the floods reported in 2026 so far.

The team is headed by Praveen Kumar Rai, Joint Secretary (UT) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Upon their arrival in Guwahati, the officials were briefed on the current flood situation and the extent of damage caused this year, along with details of flood-related losses from the previous year, during an introductory meeting.

The team has been divided into two groups for field visits to the affected districts.

One group will visit Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Biswanath (Gohpur), while the other will visit Cachar, Bajali and Chirang to assess the impact of the floods.

The visit will conclude with a meeting with Assam Chief Secretary and other senior officials at Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

The Centre's assessment comes days after Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited flood-affected areas in Dhemaji district along with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.
