Popular Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s social work is not new in the world of entertainment. He has helped many times before in various crises of the country and the needs of common people. Now another great and human example is added to that list. Khilari Kumar donated Rs 1 crore to transform a government school in a remote village on the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir.
The school is located in Niru Tulail, a remote village near the India-Pakistan border at the very end of the Gurez Valley in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir. The funds given by Akshay Kumar have been used to construct a new and modern building for the dilapidated government school. The actor kept the promise he made 5 years back and proved that he is a true hero not only on silver screen but also in real life.
The incident started when Akshay Kumar went to Kashmir on the special invitation of the Border Security Force (BSF) to boost the morale of the soldiers working on the border. During this trip, he set foot in Niru, a remote village in North Kashmir. There, he encountered poor school conditions amid adverse weather conditions and learning difficulties for local children. Impressed by the plight of poor children, the actor announced a donation of Rs 1 crore to improve school infrastructure.
Five years later, Akshay’s donation has completely changed the face of the school. The new modern building donated by the actor is named Shri Hari Om Bhatia Shiksha Block. Akshay Kumar named the film in memory of his late father Hari Om Bhatia.
The newly constructed school building has classrooms with modern facilities for students, computer labs, a beautiful library and separate offices for teachers. Also, the school lunch scheme infrastructure has been improved and modernized keeping in mind the nutrition of students in these remote areas. Akshay’s contribution to the education system of the border area has been highly appreciated by the local residents and administration.
