The Guwahati police have arrested the president of a so-called organization involved in extortion in a private school in the city.
The accused, identified as Soundarya Yogi alias Moucham Barua, is associated with the Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Foundation.
The accused allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from a school called Little Steps in Guwahati.
Dispur police arrested this so-called leader on charges of extortion.
According to reports, Soundarya Yogi was earlier arrested for her involvement in a major vehicle theft and fraud in the state.
He is accused of renting cars from various car agencies in Assam and then selling them illegally.
The police have learned that the accused is a known fraudster and he is currently under further investigation.
