GUWAHATI: A 13-year-old boy lost his life while trying to save his pet puppy from floodwaters in Assam's Nazira, in a heartbreaking incident that has left his family and the local community in mourning.

Hridip Panika, a Class 7 student at a local Model School in Bamun Pukhuri village under Nazira sub-division, was swept away by strong flood currents while attempting to rescue his three-month-old puppy, Borun.

Hridip was the only child of Deepak and Parbati Panika.
According to reports, as floodwaters surged through the village, Hridip noticed the puppy being carried away by the current. Unable to watch his pet drown, he jumped into the water in an effort to save it. While the puppy survived, the teenager was overpowered by the strong current and swept away.
His body was recovered after a search operation, bringing an end to frantic efforts to locate him. The tragedy has compounded the family's suffering, as they had already lost their home and belongings to the floods.
The video of the grieving parents was shared by a content creator, who offered a financial assistance of ₹50,000 to the family.
