GUWAHATI: The Assam government will distribute free replacement textbooks to students whose books were lost or damaged in the recent floods, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced on July 25, as part of efforts to minimise disruptions to the ongoing academic session in flood-hit districts.
Sharing the announcement on X, Pegu said the decision was taken after reviewing the extent of flood damage across several parts of the state. He added that the Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation has been directed to immediately begin preparations for printing and supplying fresh sets of textbooks to affected students.
To expedite the process, all Inspectors of Schools (IS) and District Elementary Education Officers (DEEOs) have been instructed to assess the requirement and submit district-wise textbook demands at the earliest.
In a special measure, the government has decided to provide fresh textbooks to all students in the severely flood-affected districts of Charaideo and Sivasagar, where the impact of the floods has been particularly severe.
The replacement textbooks will be dispatched as soon as schools reopen, allowing students to resume their studies without interruption.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to education, Pegu said every effort is being made to ensure that learning continues despite the challenges posed by the floods.
