Politics in West Bengal is currently very heated and problems are mounting for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Amid the party’s internal strife, investigative agencies have stepped up investigations into various cases. As part of such investigation, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) reached Mamata Banerjee’s house in Kalighat, Kolkata. The team reached there to give notice to Abhishek Banerjee. However, due to Abhishek Banerjee’s absence, the residential authorities did not allow the CID team to enter the premises. They were asked to investigate only after Abhishek Banerjee returned. The residence is also used as a party office. Mamata Banerjee is currently in Delhi where she met former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The CID is probing the allegation of forged signature in the name of Abhishek Banerjee. In a letter to the Assembly Speaker, the rebel MLAs alleged that forged signatures were used on a resolution on Abhishek Banerjee’s letterhead to appoint Sovandev as Leader of Opposition. MLAs claim that Abhishek Banerjee has a special role behind the fraud. Meanwhile, CID sources said, in response to the earlier notice, Abhishek Banerjee said that the signatures of the concerned MLAs were collected at the Trinamool Congress central office on Harish Chatterjee Street.The office which falls in Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence area.
Mamata Banerjee is currently in Delhi. He went to Delhi from Bengal to attend the meeting of the alliance of opposition parties. Pictures and scenes of his interactions with Congress leaders during the tour received a lot of media attention. A picture of Sonia Gandhi hugging has attracted attention. Mamata Banerjee then visited Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath in Delhi and met her.
But soon after the alliance meeting, Mamata Banerjee was criticized by several Congress leaders. It is also alleged that Mamata Banerjee herself is responsible for the split within the Trinamool Congress. Congress leader Udit Raj said that Nitish Kumar left the opposition alliance because of Mamata Banerjee’s wrong policies and it made it easier for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to win the elections. Former Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said those who left the party learned this behavior from Mamata Banerjee. It is also alleged that he has used various tactics to bring Congress leaders into the party in the past.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reacted strongly to the arrival of the CID team at the Chief Minister’s residence. BJP MP Manoj Tiga said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is at the center of all the injustice and corruption that has happened in the state in the last 15 years. He alleged that there were major financial scams or irregularities in the education and recruitment processThe negligence of the government is evident everywhere. He also said that no one is above the law in the country and everyone should obey the law.
