GUWAHATI: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were shot dead, while another sustained injuries after an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly opened fire inside a CRPF camp at Katimari in Assam on Tuesday morning, August 4, before dying by suicide.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place at the 34 Battalion CRPF camp in Katimari.
Police said ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was on main gate duty when he was found without his assigned weapon. He subsequently took an INSAS rifle from the Guard Room and proceeded to the rear side of the Quarter Guard, where he allegedly opened fire on Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who died on the spot.
The accused then allegedly fired at Sub-Inspector (SI/GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who had arrived for document verification. The officer also succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Thereafter, ASI/Mane Govind Sripul of B/171 Battalion was allegedly shot and injured during the incident.
According to an official press release, Ballani Premabaram later entered the B/171 barrack and shot himself with the same weapon, resulting in his death.
The injured ASI was immediately shifted to Dew Care Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, Head Constable Vishnu Prasad Baghel, and ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, the alleged shooter.
