Electricity price increased again in Assam


Very worrying news for electricity consumers in Assam. The price of electricity will be increased again in the state. Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has decided to increase the price of electricity. The Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the price hike. The new tariffs, known as FPPPA rules, are based on the cost of fuel and power purchases. Under the new rules, the price of electricity will be 15 paisa to 28 paisa per unit. This price will not increase all at once but gradually over several months.

According to the new schedule, electricity prices will be increased by 21 paise per unit in June. 18 paisa in July and 16 paisa in August. This price increase does not stop there. Prices will rise by 17p per unit in September, 19p in November and 24p in December. The burden will continue even as early as 2027. Electricity tariff will be increased by 26 paisa in January 2027, 25 paisa in February and 28 paisa in March.

Government officials say the new tariffs are due to changes in the cost of producing or buying fuel and fuel. The new rules will come into force from June to March this year amid concerns among consumers over the rise in electricity prices amid hikes in prices of essential commodities and petrol and diesel. Consumers have expressed outrage that the decision will create additional economic burden on the general public of the state.
