Extortion and death threats

A BJP worker was kidnapped and beaten up in Guwahati. The deceased’s name is Noman Dewan. He is a resident of Fancy Bazaar, Guwahati.

The incident took place on June 21 at Break Point Sports Club near Nehru Stadium on B Barua College Road. There a group of about 25-30 people blocked him for about four hours and tortured him physically and mentally.

Victim Noman Dewan said that the main accused of the attack are Anil Bosfor, Pawan Bosfor, Manjit Bosfor and Suhail Bosfor. Although the incident took place inside the sports club, the owner of the club, Akash Aggarwal, did not inform the Paltan Bazar police. After his father sought help from the police, Noman was rescued from the spot.

Noman alleged that the state side demanded money from him while detaining him. The attack stems from a dispute nearly four years ago. Noman lodged a complaint with the Panbazar police station last June, but the police told him that the case had been referred to the Paltan Bazar police station as the incident fell under the police station’s jurisdiction. Sadly, no strict action was taken against the culprits even after the complaint was filed.

Noman and his family are now living in fear as the accused fled to Bihar after threatening to kill him.

Noman Dewan is actively associated with BJP. He has worked with the councilors of ward number 17 and also participated in the election campaign of Guwahati Central MLA Vijay Gupta. Police have not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed anything about the investigation.
