Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Thursday said women should try to be good mothers before becoming IAS officers or teachers. He emphasized that professional success should never come at the expense of family responsibilities. Speaking at the 41st convocation of a university in Kanpur, the 84-year-old governor urged young women to continue their education and career after marriage and contribute to their families and society.
StudentsAddressing the parents and teachers, he said that education should not be limited to acquiring degrees and should also include family values and character building. He also said that everyone should know how to cook food at home. After marriage, girls should not give up their studies and use their knowledge and skills to build the country. He urged parents to keep an eye on their children’s performance even after they get admission in school or college. He warns that even the slightest neglect by parents can have an adverse effect on the future of their children.
The governor also expressed deep concern over the increasing use of drugs around the university hostels. He said that an inspection team at Raj Bhavan detected the smuggling of drugs in food containers and later the gang was busted with the intervention of the administration. Referring to the increasing domestic violence and crime against women in the society, he said education cannot be measured by marks and degrees alone. Moral values are as important as biblical knowledge, he said.

BSc Agriculture student Priya Yadav bagged the Acharya’s Gold Medal along with four medals topping the university. Earlier, at another university event in Lucknow on July 8, he suggested starting courses on women’s health, nutrition and womb reform. A day earlier, at the 24th convocation of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, he advised the youth to be financially independent before love marriage and said that they should first learn to stand on their own feet and then take the decision of marriage.
