According to police, the incident took place on the night of July 14 when Hiteshwar Deka and his friend, Sunu Choudhury, visited a house in Santipur to meet transgender matriarch Neha. However, Neha was not at home at the time. Inside the residence, Anwar alias Pagla and Raja alias Abir Khan were reportedly consuming alcohol in a room belonging to Neha's associates, Jenny and Mayuri.
At around 11:40 PM, as Deka and Choudhury were leaving the premises, they reportedly had a minor collision with Anwar and Raja, who were also stepping out. The brief altercation soon escalated into a violent confrontation.
Police said Anwar called his younger brother, Sanwar Ali, while Raja contacted his wife, Moromi, to join them. Investigators allege that the group then assaulted Hiteshwar Deka, during which he suffered a serious head injury. He was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Bharalumukh Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Earlier, police had arrested Anwar alias Pagla, Raja alias Abir Khan, and Anwar's younger brother Monwar. Moromi was also detained for questioning.
With the arrest of Sanwar Ali, all the key accused in the case are now in police custody. Investigators believe the arrest marks a crucial breakthrough, and further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events.
