Prominent activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike has entered its 19th day today. A statement from the Telapoka Janata Party said his condition had deteriorated since Thursday morning. He has lost over 9 kg since he started his fast.
According to the medical report conducted this morning, Sonam Wangchuk’s weight has come down to 56.90 kg. His blood pressure is 101/65 mmHgPulse 72 beats per minute, oxygen level 98 percent, and blood sugar 89 mg/dL. He is physically weak but mentally fully alert and active. He is currently under regular medical observation. The Delhi High Court directed the administration to conduct daily health check-ups and monitoring of Wangchuk during the fast.
The Telapoka Janata Party again called on the Indian government to hold talks with the protesters as soon as possible. Demands have been made to the government to reform the examination system and solve the long-standing problems of students across the country. The party also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The party has called upon the countrymen to participate in a peaceful parliamentary march on July 20 in support of students and education reforms.
