The incident was discovered at around 1 PM on August 17 at House No. 28, Bye Lane No. 2, Sreenagar. The house has reportedly been vacant for nearly three months as its owner, Sankar Das Gupta, is currently staying in Bengaluru for work.
According to the relatives, the unidentified persons allegedly gained entry after breaking the locks of all three grills and two doors of the house. The entire premises was found ransacked, with wardrobes, furniture, electrical fittings, electronic items and household belongings damaged or destroyed.
Among the losses reported so far, electrical wiring and copper materials were cut and stolen, leaving the house without electricity. The CCTV system was damaged and its DVR was allegedly stolen. Five wardrobes, including two steel almirahs, were forcibly opened and searched, while the television and other household items were also damaged.
Important files and documents were found scattered across the house, while original property papers and other vital documents are currently missing. The complainant said the complete extent and financial value of the loss could not yet be determined due to the condition of the premises.
Speaking with GPlus, Dispur Police officials said they are currently working on the case and had visited the location on August 17 after being informed about the incident.
The complaint was submitted seeking registration of an FIR and a detailed investigation into the house-breaking, theft and vandalism. Further losses or missing items may be identified once the house is inspected and cleaned.
