Guwahati: PWD Carries Out Temporary Pothole Repair Near Maharaja Prithu Flyover in Ambari

GUWAHATI: The Public Works Department (PWD) repaired a pothole-riddled service road near the start of the Maharaja Prithu Flyover in Ambari on Tuesday morning, June 9. Workers used sand and gravel to fill the potholes, a temporary fix that has not gone down well with locals.

The service road is a busy stretch along the GNB Road corridor, used daily by commuters and commercial vehicles.

Shopkeepers and residents near the site were quick to raise doubts about how long the repair would last. "They repaired it this morning, one rain and all of it will be washed away," said one shopkeeper, echoing a worry that many in the area share, especially with the monsoon ahead.

Frustration among residents isn't uncommon. "Our PM or President should come every week so that roads are constructed and well maintained," said one local, summing up a broader anger over the state of civic infrastructure in the neighbourhood.

Adding to the concern, a drainage channel along the same stretch was recently constructed but has not yet been completed. Without proper drainage, residents worry that rainwater will collect on the road surface and speed up the breakdown of the freshly filled potholes.

While talking to GPlus a PWD official said, there are several technical methods for fixing potholes and the right one is chosen based on the condition of the road. The quick fix, the official said, was always meant to hold things together until a proper repair could be carried out.
