GUWAHATI: The renovated Silpukhuri Park was inaugurated on Monday, July 27, by Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai, with the state government announcing free entry for all visitors from 5:30 AM to 10 AM daily and free admission throughout the day for senior citizens aged 60 years and above. The park has been upgraded at a cost of ₹98 lakh.
A nominal entry fee will be charged for other visitors after 10 AM.
Speaking at the inauguration, Rai said the project reflects the Assam government's focus on strengthening public infrastructure through sustainable urban development and creating accessible green spaces. He added that similar parks would be developed in other parts of the state to promote environmental conservation, recreation, and community engagement.
The minister also directed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to clean the park's pond during winter while preserving its natural bed instead of cementing it, saying the measure would help maintain the water body's ecological character.
Spread across approximately 4.7 bighas, the upgraded park features new internal pathways, an improved drainage system, repaired and repainted boundary walls, modern children's play equipment, a decorative fountain, energy-efficient lighting, garden benches, dustbins, a new ticket counter, and upgraded sanitary and plumbing facilities.
According to the state government, the project is intended to improve the park's accessibility, safety, aesthetics, and overall visitor experience.
