A Summer Workshop on Satriya Dance and Drama was inaugurated on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Hawajan, Gohpur Assembly Constituency. The workshop was organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam in collaboration with the Biswanath District Administration.
The workshop was inaugurated by Gohpur (Chakra Officer) Acting Community Commissioner Champak Deka Hawajan Higher Secondary School Late Lakshiram Bora and Sushila Bora Hall.
The workshop was conducted under the supervision of Sangeeta Bora, a recognized artist from Guwahati, Guwahati University, Guwahati Center for Environmental Art and Culture and Prakhara Bharti Doordarshan.
Champak Deka said in the opening speech that such workshops play an important role in conveying their culture and traditions to the new generation.
“Satri dance and drama is not only an environmental art, but a living expression of our traditions, values and culture. I am sure that this workshop will develop love, discipline and confidence in the participants towards their culture.”
Soumitra Barua, Permanent President of Hawajan Buniyad, presided over the inaugural function. President of Hawajan Branch Writers’ Association, President of Hawajan Branch Sahitya Sabha, East Saidua Regional Council Member Prashant Bora, East Saidua Gaon Panchayat President Lilavati Bora were present at the opening ceremony. Prominent social and cultural workers were present.
More than half a hundred students will participate in the workshop and the participants will be trained in practical and theoretical aspects of traditional arts.
