Former India Twenty20 captain Surya Kumar Yadav and Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya warmly congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for creating history by winning their first Test match at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England. India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, became the first women’s cricket team in the world to win a Test match at Lord’s by defeating England by a mammoth margin of 270 runs.
Surya Kumar Yadav praised the team through social media platform X after the win, which added a golden chapter in the history of Indian cricket. “I want to congratulate the team, it’s a historic win for us and wish them all the best in the future,” he wrote in his post.
Earlier on Monday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated the Indian team for the rare achievement. “History has been made at Lord’s. I congratulate the Indian women’s cricket team for becoming the first women’s team to win a Test match at this historic venue and this massive 270-run win against England makes the achievement even more special,” he said. The minister said the historic win reflects the growing status of women’s cricket in India and will inspire budding cricketers across the country.
Indian batsman Yastika Bhatia became the first woman to score a century at Lord’s. She was joined by Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma. Debutant Kranti Gaur took five wickets in the first innings and Deepti Sharma took four wickets in the second innings.
Chasing India’s target of 457 runs, England lost all wickets for just 186 runs. The defeat brought a disappointing end to the international careers of England’s star players Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont. The phenomenal success of the Indian team has now received huge appreciation from the sports fans across the country as well as the cricket community.
