GUWAHATI: A landslide struck the Maligaon area of Guwahati following incessant rainfall, leaving a family of four trapped under debris on Sunday evening, July 19.

The incident occurred in the Goshala area of Madhabdev Nagar in Maligaon when a portion of a hillside collapsed onto a house.
The four-member family of Ranjit Das was trapped inside the house after the landslide. Rescue teams launched an operation and successfully pulled all four occupants from the debris.
The injured were shifted to Central NFR Hospital in Maligaon for treatment. One of the rescued individuals is reported to be in critical condition. Further details are awaited.
The incident comes amid continuous heavy rainfall that has triggered landslides at multiple locations across Guwahati. The city's hilly terrain remains highly vulnerable during the monsoon, with recurring slope failures posing a threat to residents living in hillside settlements.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Maligaon is among Guwahati's landslide-prone areas, with eight locations identified as vulnerable to landslides.
