GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday, July 21, with more than 3.6 lakh people affected across several districts as rescue and relief operations continued across the affected areas.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the worst-hit Sivasagar district has nearly 1.58 lakh affected residents, with the Dikhow River flowing above the extreme flood level, worsening the situation.
Multiple agencies, including the Indian Army, have been engaged in rescue efforts and the distribution of relief materials in flood-hit areas.
The floods have also disrupted rail connectivity for the second consecutive day. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has cancelled, diverted and short-terminated several train services after floodwaters submerged railway tracks in parts of Upper Assam. Special trains have also been introduced to assist stranded passengers.
To support those displaced by the floods, authorities have set up 101 relief camps and relief distribution centres across 11 districts, where 9,606 people are currently taking shelter.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as floodwaters remain high in several parts of the state, with relief and rescue operations ongoing.
