International Tea Day is being celebrated all over the world on Thursday. World Tea Day was celebrated in Rome, Italy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduces himself as a Chawala. He also spoke about India’s rich tea heritage.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) event has gone viral on social media. In the speech he joked that you are celebrating Tea Day tomorrow and a Chawala has come among you a day earlier to celebrate this Tea Day. He also said that there are many types of tea available in India and they taste great.
The Italian Food and Agriculture Organization on Wednesday conferred its prestigious Agricola medal on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the organization, Modi was awarded the highest honor for India’s strong commitment to human welfare. Accepting the award, the Prime Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the Director General of the Institute. He said this honor is not his alone but it is the result of hard work of crores of farmers, herdsmen, fishermen, agricultural scientists and countless laborers of India.
Tea has a history of thousands of years. According to folklore, in 2727 BC, one day in the palace of the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung, some wild plant leaves fell into a pot of hot water. When the emperor drank the water, he felt a strange taste and new energy. This is how tea was invented.
Initially used as a medicinal herb, it later became a royal drink. In the 16th century, tea traveled from Asia to Europe via Portuguese traders, and in the 17th century, it became a popular drink around the world at the hands of the British. The United Nations recognized 21 May 2019 as International Tea Day and since then it has been celebrated globally every year.
