The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today held a protest rally in Guwahati to demand the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, taking moral responsibility for the NEET exam scam that has created tension across the country. The rally, led by opposition leader Wazed Ali Chowdhury, demanded the resignation of the education minister, a detailed discussion on the matter in Parliament and immediate withdrawal of all primary information cases filed against the protesting students in Delhi.
Several top party leaders and MLAs were present in the protest. Leader of Opposition, Deputy Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Dr. Jaiprakash Das, MLAs Zakir Hussain Shikder, Nurul Huda, Baby Begum, Asif Nazar, Zubair Anam and Tanzil Hussain were present in the rally. The protesters carried Indian National Congress flags and protested against the Union government and the Education Minister.
MLA, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vipul Gogoi, Mahanagar District Congress President Swapan Das and senior leader Rupa Deuri actively participated in the programme. PPCC General Secretary Imdad Hussain, Bandip Dutt, Moinajan Begum, SC Cell Chairperson Krishna Das, Media Department representatives Happy Gogoi and Rupa Kalita, NSUI President Kaushik Kashyap and others were also present in the protest.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) media and communication department issued an official statement detailing the protest. Amid the ongoing debate over NEET exams across the country, the opposition’s stance at the state level has added to the issue. It remains to be seen how the central government responds to the opposition’s demands and whether the legal action taken against the protesting students in Delhi is withdrawn.
