GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police detained 10-20 student protesters from the Chachal protest site on Saturday afternoon, July 25.
The protesters were taken to nearby police stations, according to preliminary information. It is not clear whether any formal case has been registered against them. Police have not issued any official statement regarding the detention so far.
The detention came amid protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, with students demanding accountability and action over the issue.
Earlier in the day, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that he was stepping down from his post and had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pradhan’s resignation was among the key demands raised by protesters during the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP)-led agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
Further details are awaited.
