The district has witnessed extensive damage to educational infrastructure, with around 502 schools affected by the floods. Nearly 70,000 students have also been impacted as many of their homes have suffered damage due to the deluge.
Considering the prevailing situation, the authorities have stated that reopening schools at this stage could pose safety risks and create difficulties for students. The proposed extension aims to ensure the well-being of students until conditions improve.
Meanwhile, teachers of schools that are not submerged have been asked to report to their respective institutions from August 1 to carry out necessary preparations for the safe reopening of schools.
The proposal has been submitted to the state education department for approval.
