Sonam Wangchuk was taken to the hospital on the 21st day of the hunger strike. A large number of police reached the Jantar Mantar premises in Delhi on Saturday morning. The Delhi Police removed the hunger-striking social worker and educationist from the sit-in platform and admitted him to the nearby Safdarjung Hospital.
According to police sources, this step was taken on the orders of the Delhi High Court after the deterioration of Wangchuk’s physical condition. At the same time, the agitators have been asked to vacate the Jantar Mantar premises.
Police and doctors reached Jantar Mantar on Saturday morning to check Wangchuk’s health. He was later taken to the hospital by ambulance. The incident sparked tension in the Jantar Mantar area and Wangchuk’s supporters protested against the role of the police.

Delhi Police said their main objective was to save Wangchuk’s life. Therefore, the protestors have been called upon to maintain peace by providing necessary treatment.
“As per the order of the Hon’ble High Court and the advice of an expert doctor, Sonam Wangchuk has been shifted to hospital for necessary treatment as her condition deteriorated. While executing the order of the Hon’ble High Court, a section of the accused tried to intervene. “There was little tension but the police completed the entire process maintaining restraint.”
On the 20th day of her fast, educationist and social activist Sonam refuses to break it. Several political leaders and eminent personalities including Congress leader Pawan Khera met Sonam Wangchuk and expressed concern over her health and urged her to break her fast.
